Boxing Day

Boxing day is celebrate every 26th of December in Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, Scotland, U.K and Canada.

The whole thing started as act of charity from the rich people the poor of England. Presents would be given away for those that couldn’t afford to have them on Christmas.

Nowadays the date is famous for shopping. Shopping centres slashed their prices in order to attract more customers with some stores giving discounts up to 70%.

There is a catch though. These 70% discounts are only available for those who come on the early hours of the day. When I say early hours of the day, I mean really early such as 5 am. Some costumers sleep over in the doorstep to just have a chance to buy.

Don’t miss out this year boxing day if you are one of this “shopaholics” that love a bargain!!!

Step One College Christmas Party & Food Festival

Wowwwwww, How exciting!
Both Christmas Party and Food Festival of Step One College will be on 24th Dec.
Students will bring their own traditional food to the party to share with others. They will also give and receive Christmas gifts during party. This is another fantastic occasion for students to make friends, share their own culture and speak English. At the same time, they also can enjoy different kinds of food.

Excursions

Students will visit the Wild Life Centre at Darling Harbour tomorrow 4^th of December. The Wild life Centre is mini version of the well known Taroonga Zoo. The main Australian’s species are for demonstration, including koalas, kangaroos, possum, etc.

The excursion is a part of series of external activities that occurred this year including visits to Sydney Aquarium, Powerhouse Museum, Hide Park, New South Wales Art Gallery , among others locations.

This initiative has been well received by all students that seem to enjoying these sorts of activities.

On Friday we played GCA to see which team would make the final of the knockout competion.

We had plenty of players and were able to put our strongest team on the field.

The game started well for us against the league champions and we were one nil up at half time thanks to a great goal from Kazuki.

The second half saw both teams fighting it out and our star Brazilian Gumelo score again and we held on to win 2nil. Knocking the league champions out of the competiton.

Next week is the final against a strong Saint Marks team.

Last Friday Lets undertook the challange to become the best soccer team in the ELSA league. Our first game was against ACE language school. After a slow start Lets received a penalty after a foul inside the box. Marconi took the penalty and it was one nil to Lets. One Nil was the score at half time. In the second half we received a penalty just outside the box and Gulmeio scored making it two nil to Lets. We scored again at the end thanks to some great lead up play.

The final scored finished 3-0 and we progressed to the Semi final to Play GCLA the defending champions.

Just a week before the finals LETS F.C faced a difficult game against ASPECT.

The weather was fine and we had 13 players wanting to play.

The first half was an evenly matched but we moved ahead with some good goals from Ciao and Kazuki.

In the second half the fitness of the LETS players showed through and we were able to

win 4-1.

Next week is the big game against ACE. It is a knockout competition, so if we are to go

to the next stage in the tournament, it is a must win. See you there!

Game Lets F.C versus Ability

Go Alex! Shoot!

After the recent rain Lets F.C was able to play Ability at Queens Park last Friday. Coming into the game Lets had some new player Woo Jin and Ju Young from South Korea they were anxious to play and meet the rest of the team. Ability started well and scored their first goal from some good lead up play and it was one nil at half time to Ability. Immediately after the start of the second half Alex playing in his last game scored a goal and when we got a penalty afterwards we took a 2-1 lead.

Things were looking great, then, we took a 3-1 lead with ten minutes to go.

Unfortunately some late goals from Ability gave them a draw at 3-3 which was the final score.

I would like to thank Alex for his effort in his last game for Lets and wish him all the best in America

After the rain had cleared. Lets F.C trying to futher reach the top 0f the table played GCA.
GCA had some very fast players and boasted a goal kepper whom most on the Lets team were familar with. After the kick off the game was evenly matched with both teams missing some chances. It was GCA who took the lead with a run away goal midway through the first half. After some good lead up work we struck back and it was one goal all. We fell behind just before half time and GCA had a 2-1 lead.
The second half saw our team hit the post and misses because of some brillent saves by the GCA keeper. Another run away goal made it 3-1 which was the final result.

Hear Yees and Oh Yezzes,

Second game round two had its moments.

St Marks needed the win from ACE and it all went to plan with a goal in the first five minutes to St Marks. A solid first half ensued but no addition to the scoreline. Second half...WOW!! Here's how it went: 2-0, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2 to St M's, 3-3(penalty), then in the last 5 minutes 2 goals to St Marks to put it away 5-3. Phew!

GCA had LETS 3-1 but they fair ran the orange ragged they did, 1-nil to GCA in the first half, 2-0, 2-1 then 3-1 to finish off a good game.

SELC scored a slaughterhouse five in the first half against APC and continued on the same path to finish 11-3. Too easy.

Ability had the first half won at 1-0 but let Aspect back in the game 1-1, and then as if to rock the optimism all to pieces in the Ability camp, the Abies got a penalty awarded against them in the last second of the game to lose to Aspect 2-1. It just won't fall for Justin, will it? Still, it was a far cry from the ten-niller in the first round, wasn't it?

So SELC take the goal average back from GCA in the race and St Marks retain 3rd spot. ACE go back to bed with LETS and Aspect draw away from APC with Ability trailing behind still on the bottom rung unable to find a win.

Maybe this week Ability can find it when they play APC?

If ACE can find something akin to what got them a draw with SELC a few weeks back, it may shake up the GCA lads but there does seem to be some momentum building for the orange men.

LETS and St Marks go head to head in their second encounter, remembering that LETS drew 2-2 in comical circumstances in their first round fiasco.

And SELC take on the Aspect in their second meeting. Will it be another five f' none to Bert's boys?

It's beautiful to contemplate it all, isn't it?

Friday the 13th Soccer

Friday the 13Th proved to be unlucky for the LET.S F.C against the continuously improving Ace.

Out team was lucky to field 11players with Yuji, Kouji and a number of players missing. Thanks to Hiro for helping out. By the time we got the team on the pitch there was a big wind blowing across the pitch. We fell behind at half time 1-0 to Ace because of a well taken free kick.

The second half did not prove to be much better than the first half with the wind and conditions making the ball difficult to control. The final score of Ace 2 Lets 0 was the final score.
We have a tough game this week against the top side so we hope to see you at the game.

[ELSA BLOG] Game 1 Round 2

Top o' the day t' y' darls,

Round 2 finally got under way thanks to a coupla sunny days. Queens Parks very soggy under foot though.

The games this week were tight! All, that is, except for the one we expected to be tight. GCA gave St Marks a lesson in control and positional play and in the process slotted 4 neatly away to keep their second championship title on track and leave St Marks bemused and bedazzled in their wake. Some could blame the ultra windy conditions or the unlucky bounce of the ball, but really it was a case of sheer competence and reliability. Something that now faces any team thinking they can beat this lot.

SELC may consider themselves that team. They stay tucked in alongside GCA on the table courtesy of their win over Ability. Only 3-1 though, which shows the creeping strength forming in the new Ability.

ACE had a deflated and undermanned LETS to deal with on the far pitch. LETS were without mentor, manager and playmaker Yuji Yamani and that seemed to make all the difference as they failed to penetrate the robust ACE defence or blunten their attack. 2 nil the final scoreline; ACE now sitting equal with them on points.

The battle of 6th and 7th was indeed sorted on the adjacent field as Aspect took all the points from their game with APC in a tight tussle till the end. 1-nil at half time to Aspect then a fightback made it 1-1 until a breakaway goal sealed it for Aspect to win 2-1.

This week:

Ability may want to bury those lowly tags and bury Aspect in return for the ten-nil pasting in the first round. It proves to be seen but one game to watch with anticipation.

GCA would be hoping for a similar lack of turnout by LETS in their encounter. However, if Yuji's there to marshal his muddled mob, it may be a fifty-fifty.

St Marks need to get their campaign back on track after two straight losses but a resurgent ACE are obviously hungry for the points as they haven't been beaten in the last 5 games.

And SELC play APC for another arvo at the office if the stats have any bearing.

LETS v's Aspect

Last weeks game saw LETS F.C compete against Aspect. Wearing the familiar Chelsea colours Aspect looked good at the start repealing LETS on a number of occasions. Then the goals started coming freely and by half time LETS had put quite a few on the board.

Some goal highlights included a Yuji free kick, Kazuki scoring twice in the first half, myself and Alex. The final score was 13 nil but in the competition only 10 are counted. We are looking forward to the game this Friday, against ACE, with Luiz set to come back after a knee injury.

[ELSA BLOG] Game 7 Round 1

'allo le gents, le gends and la gentiles,

The end of the first round and same as last week, only one close score and it was with the same team, SELC, winners this time against St Marks. However, most would say (Bert included) that they can thank the nearsighted referee for the extra two points. The game started with a surprise first minute goal to St Marks but poor defending allowed SELC to grab two before half time. The second half for Bert's boys was all hands required (literally) as St Marks mounted attack after attack without result. Ten minutes from time saw one of those hands stop the ball from crossing the goal line and despite massive protest from the St Marks camp, the ref failed to see what all the fuss was about. 2-1 the final score, keeping SELC top o' th' heap and cock o' th' hoop, while St Marks are now trailing in 3rd place.

Equal top spot with SELC on 17 points is GCA, who made hard work out of their game against Ability. Half time scoreless, until Chris Harris, back from his ailments and having his first full-on game for his new college, scored all four goals to keep GCA in the hunt for a second successive title.

LETS failed to heed the mercy rule once again and continued to demoralise a truly beaten Aspect by putting in goal after goal long after the game was decided. Only 10 nil is recorded of their win. Let's not do this.

ACE stretched the distance between themselves and the lower half (even though they are technically still part of it) by taking APC apart 6 goals to 2. ACE, presumably, are feeling they can play a worthwhile part in this year's championship race if only by way of their annoyance value.

So, at the end of the first round and the halfway point of the league competition, SELC remain unbeaten on top alongside GCA. Three points behind them lie a disgruntled St Marks, three points behind them ride the ever so cocky (though more like a pink galah) LETS and then three point behind them comes the late running black ACE. APC and Aspect hold down equal sixth on a win each against Ability and a draw against each other. And Ability are yet to register any points but by all accounts are way overdue for some results from their efforts.

Round two then. First game then.

SELC can have a rest from it...perhaps. Ability as we have been saying are getting better and better with every loss, so could the bottom upset the top?

GCA need to take the points from St Marks to stay front running. St Marks equally need them to stay in touch after their disappointing loss last week.

Will the cards fall kindly for ACE when they meet the score-frenzied LETS this week? Goals will not come so freely here I'll bet.

And could the stalemate continue for APC and Aspect? Or will that 6th and 7th spot be totally sorted by Friday in what must surely be a monumental encounter?

Lets v's APC

The Game last Friday was a middle of the table clash. Both sides after a slow start to the season were looking to advance up the ladder. Lets was lucky not to lose a player early to injury, after a certain striker fell over the ball with the first touch of the day. With APC looking to push ahead, many of there players were caught offside, and when the first goal was disallowed, it was no surprise to find it had been off-side. Lets struck back with a couple of goals and with a few of our star players on the bench, we cruised to an easy 4-1 victory. On a sad note it was the last game for two of our star defenders Luis and Denis. Denis is going back to Korea and Luis will be travelling around Australia and then going back to Spain. We thank them for their effort for Lets in the outdoor and indoor competions.

Soccer Competition Game 6, Round 1

G'day guys,

This week's game o' the week between SELC and GCA was a beauty, nil-all at half time and nil-all for the rest of the time. Good one lads! Real football deserves real scores. Unusual in the ELSA to have a scoreless draw (if ever!) so it shows that either the defence was excellent or the attack was godawful. I presume the former.

St Marks, licking its lips at the prospect of SELC and GCA dropping points played a tight match with wooden spooners Ability, who showed they can be far more deserving of respect than their possie on the table suggests. 6-3 the result. To be fair, St Marks had crack after frustrating crack, but Ability played some good football to score some and deny another whitewashing. St Marks happily go equal top on points with the win.

ACE put paid to any thrill Aspect may have been looking for by thrashing them 7-2. Things don't look good for the hapless Chelsea blues this season.

And although APC scored the first goal in their game against LETS, Yuji's mob reeled in the slack to put four past them in reply to leave APC in the red once more. APC are another team falling away, failing to emulate days of former glory.

This week:

It would have to be SELC v St Marks that gets top billing. SELC have proved they can match it with the likes of the scholarship teams but can they put away Bondi stablemates St Marks? On form you would think SELC have the wood, but Nick's revenge for last season's cup final would be weighing in heavily for this one I'd say. St Marks, I reckon, are up for the challenge and the win.

GCA would love a draw in the SELC/St Marks' tussle too, so they could go outright top. That is if they do to Ability what everyone else has this season.

LETS could get themselves closer to the tabletop dancers if they do the same to Aspect.

And ACE may fancy their chances of pulling away from the bottom of the table in this week's clash with APC.

This years festival promises a great blend of soul, traditional New Orleans, and Rhythm & Blues over three day weekend.

The show kicks off at midday on Saturday, there are fireworks in the evening, and then rocks along all day Sunday and Monday. Most performances are centred around the foreshores of Cockle Bay/King Street Wharf plus the adjoining Tumberlong Park.

Soccer 16th May

On a beautiful autumn day, Lets college had a good win at Queens park last Friday.
After having few in numbers for the game against SELC, there were over 20 players wanting to play against Ability.
This made Yuji's job difficult, but after a quite first half the second half selections got on top of Abilities defence and goals came freely. The score finsihed 10 nil to Lets. We now have a good chance to climb up the ladder after a slow start to the season. Thank you for everybody that came and I hope to see you again this week.
